UNI's CEEE partners with Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative (FFI) to serve area schools
Posted: October 20, 2012The University of Northern Iowa's Center for Energy & Environmental Education (CEEE) is partnering with the Northeast Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative (FFI) to aid local school districts in promoting healthy foods.
Six school districts will participate in the new program: Decorah, Postville, Turkey Valley, South Winneshiek, Waukon and Cresco. The CEEE, along with FFI, will help these six pilot districts create a regional, cycle menu that includes seasonal, fresh produce. UNI's Jacqueline Bilyeu-Holmes, food program specialist for the CEEE, will serve as a nutrition outreach coordinator for the program.
The partnership hopes to make Iowa a place where residents experience and promote a healthy lifestyle, through the consumption of locally grown food and opportunities for physical activity. The CEEE and FFI believe that their work will make healthy choices accessible to all Iowans.
