STEAM Connections to Local Food in Schools

Last month, I was excited to teach the kids all about honey!  We did a four-week unit covering curriculum connections to science, technology, engineering, art and math, or STEAM.

The students had opportunities to learn about the pollination process, and about connecting to topics like math by tracing hexagons to make honeycomb artwork.  They learned about the life cycle of a honeybees, and also tasted local honey.  I think it is so exciting to connect curriculum and standards to the wellness of students and our local environment and economies.
