My name is Megan and I’m an AmeriCorps member serving with Decorah, North Winneshiek, and South Winneshiek schools this year. I am from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin and have a degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse. During my time spent at UW-L, I developed a passion for issues pertaining to social justice, human rights, and feminism, but couldn’t find a way to merge all of these interests until I started working at Old Oak Family Farm in Bangor, WI. I worked on the farm for two seasons and found that the local food movement is where everything I am passionate about comes together.
This week, I spent most of my time meeting teachers and administrators to learn more about their individual schools and what exactly they wanted me to do. So far, I learned that I will be in Decorah schools teaching 1st graders weekly and kindergarteners every other week. At North Winn, I will be teaching in kindergarten and pre-K every week, and at South Winn I will be rotating monthly through the K-5 classrooms. It’s a lot of classes to keep track of, but I’m so excited to get teaching!
