DECORAH  Some of the John Cline Elementary School kids had fun as the Walking School Bus turned into a Biking School Bus in honor of National Bike to School Day! A HUGE thanks to students at Decorah High School, Luther College Women’s Basketball, and Luther College Men’s Soccer for giving each kid a buddy to ride with and to the Decorah Police Department for helping everyone to stay safe! HSI Opens Applications for Iowa Walking College

The Healthiest State Initiative and Active Living Iowa opens applications for the second Iowa Walking College. The Iowa Walking College is an interactive educational program created to increase the number of walking advocates in local communities across the state. The program was launched as a pilot program in 2017 and built around the National Walking College curriculum created by America Walks. Continue reading

Major Grant to Support Beginning Farmers

We are excited to announce that Practical Farmers of Iowa — along with the Center for Rural Affairs, Healthy Harvest of North Iowa and Northeast Iowa Food and Farm Coalition — has been awarded a grant of nearly $578,000 through the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program (BFRDP). PFI is one of 36 organizations to receive a total of $17.7 million in funding. Continue reading
