It’s Finally Garden Time!

After such a long winter it’s finally here – Garden Time!

 

At John Cline, each class will have a week that they are responsible for taking care of the garden with me. So far, we’ve added compost and planted peas, with plans to plant radishes and spinach early next week. I’m hoping that we’ll get to try some of our veggies before school is out, but if not, at least every class at John Cline will have had their hands in the garden! Continue reading

Getting Dirty

Even though there is blizzard expected for Northeast Iowa, North Winn Kindergarteners planted their first seeds on Tuesday this week.  The class worked together to plant yellow and red onions, as well as leeks. The seeds are pretty tiny, and look like a speck of soil, so it was a little challenging for the kids to see where they were putting the seeds. Overall, I think it went pretty well, and I’m hoping that we have onions and leeks come summer.  For now, just the smell of the dirt reminded me that warmer, garden-filled times are ahead! Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder…

The frigid and snowy Iowa weather has finally started to put a damper on lessons! The past two weeks, school has been cancelled a total of three days, with two early outs also. These cancellations resulted in nearly all of my lessons being cancelled last week and this week. And while it has been great to catch up on lesson planning and other computer work, not being able to see my regular kids is bumming me out. As they say – absence makes the heart grow fonder!
