North Winneshiek School students donated vegetables from the school garden to the Mabel (Minnesota) Food Shelf in September and November. This included three pounds of Purple Podded and Dragon’s Tongue string beans, three Buttercup squash, 16 pounds of red potatoes, plus cucumbers and zucchini. Continue reading

North Winneshiek School sixth grade students picked vegetables from the school garden to cook an African-style one-pot meal. Adding our onions, tomatoes, peppers and kale to purchased foods, they made sweet potato, peanut butter and lentil stew to finish a multidisciplinary unit on Africa. Continue reading

North Winneshiek Health and Science Fair
Many North Winn students, parents and community members attended our health and science fair after school March 10. Coordinated by our School Wellness Team, we combined events to increase interest and attendance. Participants could pick up a “passport” and have it stamped by exhibitors to earn a prize.
North Winn Buddies: Energy Booster Salad
North Winn Kindergartners and Third Graders, working as buddies, recently made salads that contained many kinds of food. Each buddy pair selected one ingredient from each of several categories, and voted for their favorite recipe. Continue reading
