The dog days of summer are leaving us behind and fall is in the air! What a great time to get outside and enjoy what is around us. If you are in the Oelwein area take a stop at this gem of a park…Red Gate Park. Located on West Charles St. it posts 24 acres of land.
You will be welcomed by the red bicycle and tree lined drive. Shelter houses and picnic tables make it a great place to hold a get together or lay out a blanket for an impromptu picnic. There are swings, slides, and lots of climbing features for little adventures. The park also features a basketball court, horseshoe and bocce ball pits, and volleyball. Primitive restrooms are available, but plan to pack out whatever trash you create.
Big, beautiful old trees make this a great place for a fall walk or just to sit and rest a spell. The park has planted a prairie area and asks for your patience as the prairie begins to develop. If you are interested in a walk, head out on the trail head and see where the path leads. Add this little gem to your list of parks to visit in Fayette County!
