Kids in the Kitchen- A New Cooking Club at New Hampton Elementary

This month opened up new and exciting opportunities to 4th graders at New Hampton Elementary. Once a month, we will get together to cook and share in our creations. For our first club, I decided on making something I knew all the kids would like: pizza!

When I first met the kids, they were telling me how excited they were for today. One girl said to me,

“I have been looking forward to cooking club ALL DAY”, while another student said, “This is the best part of my day!”

It warmed my heart to see how little things we take for granted everyday as adults, such as cooking a meal, can be best part of the day for some kids.

On our pita pizzas, we used fresh produce, some of it locally grown which included: mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, green peppers, garlic, and onion. I encouraged the kids to put a variety of veggies on their pizzas, but they had to include at least one vegetable.

I am truly looking forward to our next cooking experience!
