On Thursday, March 12, Turkey Valley was a busy place to be! The 7-12 students had the opportunity to participate in an all- school wellness day at the W at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA and the elementary had a fun filled day at school.
The Day at the W was busy and full of activity. Students had the chance to try new activities like kickboxing, kettle bells, yoga, rock climbing and racquetball (just to name a few). In addition to new activities, the school also had access to the pool, multiple basketball courts for volleyball, dodge ball and basketball, and a 200-meter track to walk and run. By the end of the day students were tired from a full day of movement. Even teachers were ready for a nap!
Although the Day at the W was tiring, students look forward to it every year. It was a great chance to see the opportunities for fitness outside of their small communities.
The elementary wasn’t left behind to do school work all day either. In the morning they had a color walk and each classroom wore a designated color. Parent volunteers helped hangstreamers in the halls and walked with their kids. Following the color walk a local band came in and performed. Preschool through 6th grade danced the morning away! After lunch a group of Luther College music education students came and did a demonstration with the school’s African drum set. Rounding out the day, classes took turns playing Ping-Pong and badminton in the High School gym.
The fitness day was a success to say the least! Teachers and students alike were moving all day…I was even sore the next day! To see more photos and videos from the day check out http://www.turkey-v.k12.ia.us!
