First grade classes at John Cline got the year started off right with a Read and Run. Basically, the event was just as it sounds: students hauled their book boxes across the street to the track at the high school, read in the grass, and then got to run around. This event was great on many levels. First of all, the kids (and I) had so much fun and secondly, it was such a great combination of curriculum and active living! I am always impressed with how John Cline teachers get their students up and moving.
Read and Run was also the perfect way to start the year for me as an AmeriCorps Member. After having a much needed break at the end of summer, I was ready to get back to school and spend time with “my” kids. This year, I am enjoying the start of school especially because it’s the start of my second service term. It’s so nice to jump right in and I don’t have to spend as much time building all the relationships I had to last fall. I know lots of people already and I know what role I fill – it’s fantastic! I’m very much looking forward to seeing what the year brings and can’t wait to get teaching!
