Hi there! I am more than happy to introduce myself, my name is Felicia Pinto and I am the new Americorps/resource contact with FFI. I am serving with MFL MarMac and Clayton Ridge community schools this year. I moved to Decorah from a small town in Massachusetts. It is my first time in the Midwest and I must say I’m in love. Everyone I have met so far is beyond nice and has really made me feel at home. The landscape is gorgeous and it is full of parks and trails that I’m anxious to explore throughout my year of service.
I have always had a strong connection with food and have recently graduated with my bachelors in Food and Nutrition from Framingham State University. Through my college career I was able to really find my passion for community work and teaching others how to make better food choices. I volunteered with Cooking Matters were I taught nutrition to families on how to prepare healthy, tasty meals on their very limited budgets. I also have worked in hospitals and nursing homes closely with foodservice directors and dieticians. With obesity on the rise it is my goal to try and redirect these children away from the statistics and grow healthier kids! Not only do I plan on teaching others this year, but I myself will most likely learn the most.
