The sun is shining, birds are chirping, summer is near, and that can only mean one thing – it’s gardening season in Northeast Iowa! In the last couple weeks before the end of the school year, students are busy little worker bees getting gardens planted and ready for the summer.
Thursday was a gorgeous day for spring planting at Turkey Valley. The 4th grade class worked in the garden all afternoon. Together, we planted potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, basil, and several kinds of flowers. With the help of high school science students, we also installed tomato trellises, arbors for climbing beans, and a fence to keep out those pesky rabbits.
Parent volunteers will be helping tend the garden all summer. There should be plenty to harvest in the fall to reward the students for all their hard work!
